Terribullshit asked: give me some brief bios of some of your central characters and the stories they inhabit!

Okay! Well, the story that I’m writing for right now is Grand City. I keep meaning to change the name of it, but it’s probably going to stay that way. The story is broken into two acts at the moment, both revolving around relatively separate stories about separate characters. Also, all of the characters are animal people.

tggp asked: Are there any real world histories or other fiction that you are consulting in order to make sure that your world makes sense? I've always yearned to write a kind of high-flying non-Earth political drama like this – I tried in high school but it rang false the whole way through since I just hadn't looked at anything. What are some elements that will give your story a realness? Or will it actually be completely fantasy?

In specifics, no, I’m not really using any references, though I definitely should. For the most part, a lot of what I’m building in terms of political and governmental climate is mostly made up out of my head, and is honestly still in the works. That specifically, along with a few other things are still kind of up in the air for me. Though, I feel that a lot of it is really self contained, politically speaking, at least, seeing as how Grand City exists very strongly in its own universe, with it’s own rules, at least, with what I’ve got so far.

Though, I should say that in terms of period wise, I’d say that it’s set something close to about the turn of the century? Yeah, seeing as how much of the world is still developing in a sense. So technologies are coming about. Very specifically, cars and radios. It’s all still sort of at this time of naivete, at least for the generation that is growing up in Grand City, so sheltered from the horrors of war and etc. and even living in this moment of modern excess? Yeah, a lot of say, Kid’s story deals with more personal, social experiences, and due to his being a sort of transient, his only real run in with the law/politics is mostly police and stuff here and there. Though, Kid gets into a good bit of trouble later on with some bigger guys. But, yeah, I plan on delving into it in later acts that revolve around other characters. Johnathan Red, specifically, who, as a note was actually the first character that I had sort of written for, and is the son and heir to Joshua Red. So, yeah, I’ll definitely pull that together soon enough.

So, yeah, my first idea that I’m running with at the moment is that Grand City is run by this Council, composed of several (I’m not sure how many exactly) families, each in charge of their own bits of government/economy/etc., kind of like departments. The Council also has an appointed official at the head of everything, and much of what determines this is that family’s wealth. So, a lot of social standings as well are based off of one’s riches, and how much land their family owns, etc. Which immediately causes this divide in class as it is, and brings about this huge difference between the rich and the not so rich. Anyways, much of this is based off of previous traditions that the people had followed, so other things come into play like, head of household, gender, age etc.

For the most part, it’s a lot of information that I’ve just kind of assimilated into my head, and I’ve just shot off in some direction in the hopes of being able to build this society from scratch. But, I should definitely look into some specific historical moments and what. Especially like, turn of the century kind of stuff. If you’ve got any recommendations, lemme know, definitely! Hope I got it all.

tggp asked: r all yr storiesz bout amianals wow lol furry (i am stil waitgin 4 mah narto fox fanfix commision tia))

Well, no. Just a lot of the ones currently deal with aminal people and stuff. I guess you could say I just have an affinity with animal people? But, I plan on doing a whole bunch of other things, and not to mention journal comics, since I just need the practice. One story I’d particularly like to do is about this kid who is mistakenly pit into the role of a hero, and his weapon of justice is nothing more than a stick that he’s fashioned to be his sword. And he has to go on this adventure to save something important from falling into the bad guy’s lap. But, yeah, I’m not just all about animals. They’re fun, though.

tggp asked: Any ideas on how this "utopia" came into being and how it fell? Will all f your stories be set in the same time i.e. will this be how you are looking to find narrative variations across the four stories?

So, I’m honestly still juggling a lot of ideas about this in particular right now, but I’ll do my best to answer it.

Grand City, and the powers behind it was constructed in the hopes of unifying several neighboring families that had shared and controlled much of the land, including its vast populaces and resources. For much time, the families had quarreled, and it even came to territorial wars, which ended in more blood than was necessary. Soon, a council was formed to come to some sort of truce or agreement over the land debates. One member in particular, Joshua Red, had the idea that they should rule together instead of against each other. And, as a note, Joshua had just come into his place of power, as his father was fatally wounded in a skirmish. Under Joshua’s convincing speech, the council was relatively convinced that it would work. (sorry, stupid) Joshua’s dream was to create a place for those that would follow in his steps to be without war. (yeah, corny, but genuine)

The utopian dream didn’t last long, though. In it’s early stages, Grand City flourished to great heights, though there was a rat in the nest. Thomas Lavender, both Joshua’s closest ally and right hand, saw that Joshua was unfit to control such a power, and was quick to usurp the throne. So, through a succession of scandals and assassinations, Lavender ensured that Joshua and his family were removed from the picture. Though, in a final attempt to kill Joshua Red’s son, Jonathan, Lavender was interrupted by authorities. Though, Lavender’s a crafty bastard, and claimed that he had been the one to save Jonathan from the killer, though was too late to save his best friend and his wife. From then on, Thomas Lavender has been in control of the city, and he’s done nothing short of corrupt it. Lavender is also a part of The Masks, a crime syndicate that terrorizes the City day in and day out. Using his newfound power, Lavender has let the city fall apart, to build his selfish desires.

I’m still writing out and tweaking a lot of the other stories that I’m interested in telling. At the moment, I’m focusing on Kid and his story. Though, I’d definitely love to continue on with other characters and their respective tales. I would say that a good amount of the main stories will be parallel, and events here and there will have different effects for each story. Though, I am also interested in telling stories both before and after the main events of Grand City. Though, I should say, that I’m not in any way interested in doing it the same way Homestuck is told, i.e. back and forth between different characters. No, I plan on telling each character’s story as a whole, and then moving on to the next.

Hope that answered everything
